28 Oct 2007 - Protection of rare Lesser Calamint
Six volunteers attended this Lesnes Abbey Conservation Volunteers event on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The volunteers helped remove invasive plants encroaching on the Lesser Calamint. The Lesser Calamint which contains camphor like essential oils was used as a medical herb in medieval times for flatulence, bruises & coughs. This rare plant species has been classed as a species of conservation concern & priority by the London Biodiversity Action Plan, & only grows on this one site in the whole of Greater London.
